Victor Fasonu
West Nigeria Christian College
Bro. Victor Oyewole Fasonu was one of the first set of students admitted to pursue diploma in Biblical Studies at the West Nigeria Christian College and School of Biblical Studies, Abeokuta, Nigeria, at the inception of the College in 1999. Victor was one of the 22 students that started the program and among the 12 that survived and graduated in May 2001. Victor was twenty years of age when he enrolled in WNCC. Ironically, Victor was the first soul to be baptized on WNCC campus.
Upon graduation in May 2001, he was engaged by Bro. D. T. Alaje to help plant a new congregation at Iragbiji in Osun state, Southwest of Nigeria. Victor worked diligently in nurturing the young congregation from a membership of about 6 to 45 within the space of one and half years. While still ministering at Iragbiji, he was given an additional responsibility to set up the World Bible School office at Oshogbo, Osun state capital, a distance of about 15 kilometers from Iragbiji. Victor also excelled in this assignment by enrolling about 150 prospects and studying regularly with 24 out of this number. Seven of his WBS prospects were baptized and are still doing well in the church today.
Victor moved down to Lagos in 2004 when he was appointed the minister of the church meeting at Onipanu, in Palmgrove area of Lagos. The church has just acquired a decent and befitting meeting place after about 15 years of meeting in the premises of a private nursery and primary school. The church then required the services of a young and vibrant preacher who will help in packaging spiritual and evangelistic programs for the church in her bid to attract more members. Upon recommendation from the leadership of WNCC, Victor Fasonu was hired and the church has been counting her blessings ever since.
Within 12 months of Victor’s stewardship in the congregation, membership rose from an average of 120 to 155 on Sundays. Several souls were converted; backsliding members were rejuvenated while some who had been disfellowshipped were restored. He repackaged edification programs of the church such that weekly activities which had suffered neglect as a result of lackadaisical attitude of members was reactivated and attendance soared.
Victor’s ministry was not limited to the congregation where he ministers. He is also actively involved in both preachers’ forum and preachers and church leaders’ meeting among preachers of the Lord’s congregations in Lagos. He is one of the coordinators of Lagos Preachers’ Television ministry with a nationwide coverage. He features regularly on the TV program either as a moderator or as a speaker. Victor is also a toast of congregations as speaker in seminars, workshops and lectureships. He also features regularly as moderator, speaker, or songs leaders at WNCC’s annual Workshops and lectureships.
Victor Fasonu was married in 2006 and the union is blessed with a baby. (The above picture is of Victor and his wife on their wedding day.)
