The Nigerian Christian Bible College, Ukpom, Abak conducted annual Ministers and Church Leaders workshop from Tuesday, May 7 through Friday May 10, 2019 on the theme Managing Stress and Burn out in ministry. Dr. Thayer Salisbury, the Resource person arrived the campus of N.C.B.C on Monday May 6, 2019 and was highly welcomed by the staff, students and his old friends.

Participants started to register for the workshop as early as 9:00am on Tuesday. By 1pm, they were all gathered in the chapel and Prof. T. J. Akpakpan gave the opening remark and introduced the guest speaker Dr. Thayer Salisbury. He gave the first keynote “Ministering in age of stress” and the second keynote was “Attend to the study of the scripture.”

On Wednesday morning, May 8th the provost of the College, Mr. Goodnews Peter officially welcomed the guest speaker Dr. Thayer Salisbury, the adjunct resource person, Comrade Friday Adima of The New Life Behaviour International and the participants to the workshop. He observed that the two schools sponsored by the ACSF, West Nigeria Christian College, Abeokuta in Ogun State and the Nigerian Christian Bible College Ukpom, Abak, agreed that the theme “Managing Stress and Burnouts for effective Ministry” should be discussed in the two campuses during this year’s leadership workshop. This will help to provide the needed relief to lives of incessant stress and frustrations usually orchestrated by limitless efforts to achieve all alone.

Dr. Thayer Salisbury, a onetime senior lecturer at N.C.B.C. and missionary presented very rich lessons on the structure to reduce stress, how to negativity, seeking positive things, preach the Gospel, not just laws etc. etc. He encouraged the church leaders to be very prayerful. Comrade Friday Adima also presented good lessons on responsive leadership and responsible teachings such as Dysfunctional family; talk to correct behaviour, how is the family communicating? and flexible styles in relationship.

On Thursday afternoon May 9, the caretaker N.C.B.C. Alumni Executive conducted meeting with the NCBC Alumni and succeeded in appointing an electoral committee for the election of a substantive N.C.B.C alumni Executive come in the month of august during our annual Bible Lectureship.

A unique addendum of this year’s workshop was that two certificates were issued to all the participants, one from the College and also from the “New Life Behaviour International.” The attendance was very impressive as over one hundred and fifty church leaders from five geopolitical states of the federation was represented such as Abia, Cross River, Imo, Rivers and Akwa Ibom State. The two resource persons, Dr. Thayer Salisbury and Friday Adima were appreciated by the College with gifts of clothes called “Senator”.

To God be the glory for the successful hosting of 2019 N.C.B.C Ministers and Leaders workshop and immense thanks to ACSF, our sponsors.
