A Jubilant Jungle Jamboree

On October 2, 2010 the African Christian Schools foundation hosted an event to orient and interest a younger generation of supporters. On location at the Nashville Zoo the Board and Staff were present to welcome grandparents, parents and children for a day of fun sponsored by ACSF. Families were free to roam the Zoo and discover the wildlife native not only to our continent but the continent of Africa as well. In addition to the Zoo, the attending families enjoyed lunch together. Children had the opportunity to pet and learn about several animals, play games such as corn hole and hula hooping, get their face painted and jump in the bounce house. We were pleased with the attendance of 190 people. Of course, the true value of this event was seen in the younger faces who attended to learn about the important ministry ACSF is responsible for overseeing – Nigerian Christian Bible College and Western Nigeria Christian College.

The Jungle Jamboree was also the kick-off event for a new ministry which ACSF is partnering with which has important and positive implications for NCBC – our school in Eastern Nigeria. Cliff Jarrell, who oversees an orphanage in Nigeria, has been working in conjunction with ACSF for several months regarding various administrative matters on the campus. During the Jungle Jamboree, Cliff’s work was introduced and Pen Pal program for the orphans was initiated by ACSF. This effort, in conjunction with ACSF’s commitment to train preachers in Africa will expand our mission to incorporate James’ prime directive for Christians to “visit orphans . . . in their distress” (James 1:27). If you are interested in becoming a pen pal, please call the ACSF office at 615.244.8181 or e-mail at info@africanchristianschools.org. A Coin Can Campaign was also introduced. With this program, we are changing Africa one soul at a time by families filling the cans with change and turning them into ACSF.

We would be remiss if we did not express our appreciation to Angie Hutchison who conceived, planned and orchestrated this event. Also, a thank you should also be extended to the sponsors and the volunteers of this event. Without them this event would not have been possible. It is imperative that ACSF have people with such boldness and vision to see that this ministry that has been training preachers in Africa for over 60 years will celebrate its centennial – perhaps even at the Nashville Zoo!
